Income can look like the whole price while the state is still owed a piece the receipt never showed.

A level under the number you celebrated

A receipt can hide the tax one level under the price you rang. Income looks like the whole amount. The state is still owed a piece of it. The fee the processor kept never appears at all. You see a match to the bank and feel done. The return, later, does not agree. The page exists for the owner who felt finished at the bank and then met a return that disagreed.

The picture is the kitchen table, not a landmark. The bank app is open. The deposit equals the statement. What arrived in the bank is real, and the file is still missing the three lines that made it. The statement showed what arrived. The file still has to show what the drawer recorded, what the processor kept, and what the state is owed.

The meeting is a video call. The file is shared. The three lines are the work, whichever state the register sits in. We do not need a walk through your market to see a receipt that swallowed the tax.

A long selling day is still a batch

A long day at a stall or a sidewalk table can mix a card batch, a handful of cash, and a gift card sold to someone who will come back next month. Cash is its own record. The card batch is the remainder after the fee. The gift card is a liability until it buys something taxable. Three objects, and a single deposit screen will smear them if nobody stops it. We name which object is which before the payable moves.

Goods bought for that day and expensed the same afternoon will not be on the shelf in the file when the weekend ends. Inventory asset holds what is still there. Cost of goods sold holds what left. A count is the only way those two rows tell the truth. We ask whether the count exists. We do not invent one.

If a marketplace also took orders during that day, its tax stays off the shop payable. The shop return should not get credit for money the shop did not send. A clearing row is how the file respects that split. How many years the state wants those records kept is a question for that state's own page, and the bookkeeping does not wait on the answer.

The close, without a local office story

There does not need to be an office of ours on your street. A video call, the batch on the screen, and a date for the close are the whole arrangement. Payday, if you want it in the scope, is set up on the provider you already run. We do not send the Friday.

If the receipt already swallowed the tax, the receipt page shows the shape without using your dollars. If you would rather start from your own batch, the form is the shorter path. Both paths still write the sale, then the fee, then the tax, and only then treat the bank as what remained.

A federal return prepared on a receipt that still hides the tax will look healthy for the wrong reason. We would rather say that in the month it happened than in the month the return is due.

The batch

Name the batch. We will look for the amount sitting a level under the sale.
